Know When It’s Time to Prune

Here at Stockman, we look to prune the shrubs and trees of our Clients properties 2 to 3 times per year. Different species of trees, shrubs, and plants all have different shapes they’re supposed to keep. Our Team is happy to assist in identifying what the shape should be, then maintaining them to keep that shape. That way, when your trees, shrubs, and plants start growing more than desired, we are ready to give them the pruning they need to clean up the look of the property. You can also look for any sort of dead, dying, or diseased growth as a sign for pruning. Certain species can be at a higher risk for disease, which can kill the specific tree or shrub, but also spread to others. It’s imperative to identify any sign of disease early so that it can be removed.

How many times per year should I trim my shrubs?

2 times per year, once at the end of spring and once in the fall, has been the most effective pruning schedule we have found in our experience. The weather is still cool enough in those seasons where the shrubs don’t experience heat stress and suffer potential health issues.

So you shouldn’t prune shrubs or trees in the summer or winter?

You can still prune during those times, as long as the weather is cooperative! Everything that grows outside has to deal with the effects of Mother Nature, that’s why it’s best to speak with a professional that can identify the weather patterns and proper pruning times based on those.
