Property Assessment and Design
Your landscaping is not only unique to your property, but it’s also unique to you! Our experienced Team at Stockman will come to your property and assess your planting bed area and provide our professional suggestions. However, we also work with you to understand what you like, from colors to height to something you might have seen in someone else’s landscaping.
Once we understand your vision, our design process begins. We carefully consider multiple factors to ensure your new landscape thrives long-term:
- Soil conditions
- Sun/shade patterns
- Watering requirements
- Pittsburgh’s unique climate challenges

Approval
Our Team strives to create a vibrant, colorful landscape that thrives for years to come, not just right when it’s installed. Once the design is completed, we will present it to you and walk through the vision of your new landscape.
Installation and Watering
After approval, our Team gets to work! Because plants, trees, and shrubs are living species, we train our Team on how to plant properly to ensure the best conditions for establishment and growth. We also make sure to water in your new plants for you prior to completing the job.
Receive Your Plant Care Packet
Once everything is installed, you will be provided with a Plant Care Packet. This includes all pertinent information about what we plant, how growth should occur, and proper care and watering instructions to help you successfully maintain your new installation!

WHEN IS IT TIME FOR NEW PLANTS?
Signs Your Landscape Needs Renewal
Maybe you have an old overgrown landscape bed, an area where you envision new plants, or an existing bed with old, dead plants and shrubs. These, along with many others, are all reasons why Clients trust Team Stockman with a new plant installation.
Ideal Timing for Pittsburgh Landscapes
From a timing perspective, making sure the weather is as conducive as possible for establishment and growth is the key. In the Pittsburgh Area, Spring and Fall are the best seasons for planting. Mother Nature is gracious enough to help us out during those times by providing ideal soil temperatures and conditions, while also supplying water from rain, which helps growth. You can still plant in the summer, however, more care is needed during the summer months because of the temperatures and concern of drought. A well established watering and care plan is imperative for summer planting, which our Team can happily provide!

PROBLEMS SOLVED BY NEW PLANT INSTALLATION

Revitalize Your Outdoor Space
Oftentimes landscape beds need renovation due to numerous problems. By having a new landscape installation completed at your property, you can eliminate the problem of dead or diseased plants or shrubs, overgrown plants due to improper installation, or even the incorrect plants being installed that don’t belong in the current growing environment.
A professional plant installation from Stockman addresses these common landscape issues:
- Dead or diseased vegetation
- Overgrown and unmanageable plants
- Inappropriate plant selection for your specific environment
- Outdated landscape design

FEATURES OF OUR PLANT INSTALLATION SERVICE
Client-Centered Excellence
Some of the exciting features that the Team here at Stockman offers are all centered around the Client. We want to give as many options as possible when we provide our Clients with a professional landscape design. Since our Clients are the ones that will be seeing the new plant installation daily, we provide different options to meet their visual preferences, while still using the proper plant species that will thrive in our difficult growing zone. After installation, our Team will provide comprehensive information about the newly installed plants, shrubs, or trees, as well as care and watering instructions. Our goal is to create a beautiful landscape and provide help so that the investment and beauty can be protected. Team Stockman is also available to take care of ongoing maintenance on your new landscape installation, should you want to keep things looking fresh!
PITTSBURGH PLANTING EXPERTISE
Once completed with the spring cleanup, the next step is to install fresh mulch to all the landscape beds. Not only does this create a stunning curb appeal when matched with our spring cleanup and deep bed edges, but there are also health benefits to adding mulch.
A fresh mulch application can limit weed germination and growth. If our team applied a pre-emergent prior to the mulch application, weeds will have a significantly slower time developing compared to a property with either of those services.
Adding mulch to the landscape beds will also help retain moisture. This added moisture will benefit all the plants, shrubs, and trees in your beds and will also keep the soil cooler during the summer seasons.
Bundle & Save
Oftentimes we are able to give a better deal to our clients when we bundle the spring cleanup with mulch installation. We are already on site and can work through all the services more efficiently when you have our team provide multiple services.

Our Clients Love Us
“Mickey and Chase went above and beyond; not only did they tackle the planned tasks, but they even cleaned up the many fallen leaves in my yard. They were incredibly flexible when I decided last minute to add lavender plants, which Dave quickly sourced for me. They returned to install the lavender, tidied everything up beautifully, and even gave me advice on other plants in my yard.”
– C.S.
“Our experience with Stockman has been great from the beginning. Starting with Tyler who helped us scope the project, ensured we were happy and understood work to be done and he helped us every step of the way with great communication! In addition all of the Crew was extremely kind, helpful and did great work- Randy and Cary were with us the most and were truly great to work with.“
– Lindsay G.
“From the first meeting with Dan, through the crew showing up and doing the work, it was the best experience I’ve ever had hiring a contractor. We were able to work well together, making any changes that seemed appropriate. The finished product is gorgeous. And neighbors keep stopping by to complement the work.“

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to install new plants or trees?
The ideal time to install a new landscape in Pittsburgh is in the early spring season, as well as the fall season. In Spring, due to the moderate temperatures and naturally moist soil, root establishment is more likely to thrive during these times. Planting in the Fall is successful because the soil is still warm and the root systems are able to be established prior to the ground freezing.
So I can’t plant anything at all during the months?
You can! A few factors to consider would include the short term forecast, as well as very specific watering requirements. Our Team can help assist you with that.
What do I do about the wildlife eating my plants?
While there are no true “wildlife resistant” plants, our Team has the knowledge to help you select the proper plants based on the area of your property and the common issues from the wildlife. We can also help you with protective measures to aid in deterring the wildlife from destroying your new landscape installation.
Why did my landscaping look good originally, but now is overgrown and out of control?
Traditionally, we have seen many landscape installs completed that are overplanted. This means trying to get a “full” look as soon as the install is complete, instead of waiting for plant growth and maturity. Our Team understands the growth patterns of the plants and trees we recommend so that you will not have an overgrown look just a year later. Don’t forget about ongoing maintenance of your new plant installation, which our Team at Stockman is more than happy to assist with!
